Gaushala - A Home for Sacred Cows
At Saptrishi Ashram, Haridwar, the Gaushala is a sacred space dedicated to the age-old tradition of Gau Seva (serving cows), which is deeply rooted in Indian culture and spirituality. Cows are considered divine and are revered as symbols of compassion, nourishment, and selfless giving.
The Gaushala houses over 100 cows, all of whom are well cared for in spacious and clean shelters. These cows are nurtured with love and devotion, provided with fresh fodder, clean water, and medical care to ensure their well-being. The Ashram believes that serving and protecting cows is a path to spiritual merit and inner peace.
The presence of cows in the ashram enhances the spiritual vibrations of the place. Their milk is used for various sacred rituals, including daily pujas and offerings in the temples. The panchgavya (five sacred products from cows – milk, ghee, curd, dung, and urine) is considered highly beneficial in Ayurveda and is used in traditional healing practices.
Devotees and visitors to the ashram actively participate in Gau Seva, feeding the cows and offering prayers. This act of kindness fosters a sense of humility, gratitude, and connection with nature. The Ashram encourages everyone to engage in this selfless service, believing that caring for cows brings prosperity, peace, and divine blessings.
The Gaushala at Saptrishi Ashram is not just a shelter—it is a sanctuary of love and devotion, preserving a sacred tradition that upholds the values of kindness, sustainability, and spiritual well-being. It stands as a reminder that serving and protecting cows is a noble duty that leads to harmony and fulfillment.
